David will teach an Advanced Dialogue Teleseminar on Saturday, May 14, 2011. It's just $29 if you also take "Beyond Structure."
Time: 10:00am PST (California time)
Date: Saturday, May 14, 2011
Location: The entire planet!
Price: $59 – but just $29 if you also sign up for "Beyond Structure" in Atlanta or Los Angeles!
Everyone who signs up for the teleconference will be given a link to a secret webpage, and also the phone number to call in for the teleconference. On this page, they'll be able to see a number of film and video clips, and download the script selections for these scenes. You should see the clips and read the script selections before the teleconference.
NOTE: If you pay for the class – and later decide you ALSO want to attend "Beyond Structure" in Atlanta (June 4-5) or Los Angeles (June 18-19), $30 will be refunded to you or will be deducted from the "Beyond Structure" price.
When a producer, director or actor reads your script, long before they ever get to your plot, and long before they ever get a full sense of your characters, they encounter your dialogue –– usually beginning on Page 1.
And that's how they judge you. By page 3, they've often made up their mind whether they want to keep reading, or put down your script forever. But if your dialogue surprises, grips, and moves them, they take notice and eagerly keep reading.
Much of the reason for the popularity of "The Social Network" in America is because of Aaron Sorkin's riveting dialogue. Of course, his careening, rapid-fire style is simply one type of dialogue; in the right hands, more measured dialogue can be just as luminous.
In David Freeman's "Beyond Structure" (April 9-10), he spends 3 1/2 hours covering a multitude of dialogue techniques – techniques to:
- Make dialogue sound natural
- Radiate subtext
- Give each character a distinctive voice
- Let the audience sense the character's complexity, and
- Reveal ambivalence
However, there's even more to dialogue than this –– much more, and that's what's covered in his Advanced Dialogue Class.
Once you sign up, you’ll get a link to a web page where you can watch all the clips he'll be discussing. You'll also be emailed a pdf with the dialogue from those same clips.
Before the class, you’ll want to see the clips and read the dialogue, and bring the dialogue handout with you to the class. This is because once it begins, David’s fills every minute of class time giving you the advanced techniques.
David teaches with clarity, passion, warmth, and humor. He works hard to make sure you master all the techniques he’ll be presenting. This is a rare chance to upgrade your dialogue skills for the rest of your life, taught by one of the top screenwriting teachers in the world.
As mentioned above, everyone who signs up for the teleconference will be given a link to a hidden webpage, and also the phone number to call in for the teleconference.
